Course participants will learn mental health first aid skills that can be applied to help any adult. Course participants first complete the interactive self-paced eLearning component that presents an overview of mental health problems and mental health crises. The videoconferencing training allows participants the opportunity to revise and consolidate skills in a group environment.
The course includes two course components:

Module 1
- Mental Health Problems in Malta
- Mental Health First Aid
Module 2
- Depression- Signs, symptoms, risk factors and interventions
- MHFA Action Plan for Depression
- Crisis first aid for suicidal thoughts and behaviours
Module 3
- Anxiety Problems- Signs, symptoms, risk factors and interventions
- MHFA Action Plan for anxiety problems
- Crisis first aid for panic attacks
- Crisis first aid after a traumatic event
Module 4
- Psychosis- Signs, symptoms, risk factors and interventions
- The MHFA Action Plan for psychosis
- Crisis first aid for severe psychotic states
Module 5
- Substance Use Problems- Signs, symptoms, risk factors and interventions
- MHFA Action Plan for substance use problems
- Crisis first aid for severe effects of substance use
- Crisis first aid for aggressive behaviour
Participants need to complete the necessary Component 1 modules to attend the instructor led videoconferencing sessions.
